Wear Clovis Merchandise to Show Community Pride
Participate in a Founder’s Day Coloring Contest May 1-8
(Clovis, New Mexico) Tuesday, April 26, 2022—In honor of Clovis’ 115th birthday on May 1, 2022, the Clovis Action Team – the group spearheading the Clovis community branding initiative – is organizing the city’s first-ever Founder’s Day celebration. From May 1-8, citizens are invited to come together to celebrate the city’s longevity, recall Clovis’ rich history, and support the vision for our shared future and promise of “heartfelt connections. endless horizons.”
In 1906, when Santa Fe Railway engineers were ordered to locate a town-site in the newly-developing ranch and farm land of eastern New Mexico, they chose the site formerly known as Riley’s Switch. There, the town-site of Clovis was established one year later on May 1, 1907.
This Friday, April 29, Mayor Mike Morris will issue a proclamation officially announcing May 1 as Clovis Founder’s Day. The public will be able to watch the official announcement on Facebook @CityofClovis. Throughout the week, citizens are encouraged to show community pride by wearing items that display the Clovis logo. Clovis merchandise is available for purchase online or at a variety of local stores.
Additionally, a Founder’s Day Coloring Contest serves as a fun way to increase Clovis pride for kids in preschool through 12th grade. Running now through Sunday, May 8, contest details are available at VisitClovisNM.org/FoundersDay. Winners will be awarded for numerous age categories and the winning designs will be publicly displayed and featured on limited edition postcards.
Clovis Founder’s Day will recur annually on May 1, and the Clovis Action Team plans to add more events and activities in future years. For more information, visit allinclovis.com or contact the Clovis Action Team (575-935-2114, pr@clovisnm.org).
